GoodBye WordPress/Scripts and Databases

I gave advice in a previous post stating that you should stick with static HTML and the reasons why. Well I still had sites that didn’t follow that rule and for that I got in trouble. My sites were hacked and I’m saying bye bye to WordPress, scripts and databases in general. There is too much to be exploited with these scripts and for that very reason I have to ditch them. My earnings got trounced over the last two months. I thought maybe I wasn’t working hard enough on them or something along those lines, but my sites got infected by malware in a very sophisticated way. And based on the way the malware worked I never even noticed. I just caught it by fluke last night.

I’m giving you all the warning to back away from sites that use scripts because it leaves you completely open to exploitation and are you really willing to take a big hit with your earnings over a few months? Fuck it. Go static.

This wordpress site will remain up because I have a ton of shit I have to convert over to static and it will frankly take me time. So I wish you the best of luck. This site will no long be as it was. There will be no comments or anything like that. I’m not saying it will cease to exist, but it’ll take the way of the static site like at www.amxpert.com.

Fair warning people.

    Hi Chris,

One of my sites was hacked last weekend and it was a straight up html site. Google sent me a phishing notification email (it’s legit) stating their bots discovered a page on my site containing possible phishing attack. The said page has been blocked by Google with a “Web Forgery Report” reminder.

It’s a phantom page because I didn’t create it and I have no idea how the hacker managed to leave that page in there since it’s an html site. I’ve been back and forth with my hosting regarding this problem. Doesn’t seem to affect my site’s raking though and I see no “this website may be harmful to your computer” type of message in my serp results.

Anyway, reading this post of yours makes me nervous. You said that your “earnings got trounced over the last two months”. How so? Did the hacker replaced the affiliate links on your site with his links or sales via your own links were not credited at all perhaps? Mind elaborating just a little bit?

    Thanks a lot!

Essentially what they did was basically changed my htaccess. Essentially what it did was that it would check the referrer of the visitor. IF the visitor came from a another site or if i typed the address in, the page would load like normal. But if the visitor came from Google or another search engine, it would forward to a malware site.

That’s how my earnings got trounced, since it is google traffic where I earn my money.
